Job: Tenure-Track Position in Africana Philosophy and/or Decolonial

GRINNELL COLLEGE — PHILOSOPHY DEPARTMENT – TENURE-TRACK POSITION (START FALL 2023).

GRINNELL COLLEGE. The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Africana Philosophy and/or Decolonial Philosophy beginning Fall 2023. Assistant Professor (Ph.D.) preferred; instructor (ABD) or Associate Professor possible. Research and teaching interests must include two of: 19th or 20th Century Continental; Social & Political Philosophy; non-Western Philosophy.

The Department of Philosophy and Religion in the School of College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning August 1, 2023. Applicants should have a PhD or an anticipated PhD completion by August 2023 in the field of philosophy. Depending on qualifications, the appointee to this position may be recommended for tenure at the time of hiring.

Candidates should be effective teachers and must be strongly committed to excellence in scholarly research. We welcome applications from candidates engaged in high-quality scholarship in areas in digital ethics such as data ethics, ethics of AI, machine learning, or social media. Candidates in areas of social justice and equity in continental philosophy (especially pre-modern) with a competence to teach digital ethics are also welcome. An ideal candidate will work in the digital ethics and/or (pre-modern) continental philosophy with sensitivity to the problem of social equity and global inequality in the digital age and the globalized world.

Teaching specialization in digital ethics, social equity, and/or intercultural ethics is preferred, though other areas of philosophy will also be considered. In addition to scholarship and teaching, responsibilities will include participation in department, school and university service.

Job Posting: Professorial Lecturer in Asian Philosophy at American University

The Department of Philosophy and Religion in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a full-time, academic year appointment in Asian philosophy at the rank of Professorial Lecturer beginning August 29, 2022. Teaching duties include introductory courses in Asian philosophy and one upper-level seminar. Capacity to teach religious heritage of Asia, religious ethics, or Global Ethics will be a plus. In addition to scholarship and teaching, responsibilities will include participation in department, school, and university activities.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D.; however, ABD will be considered. Salary and benefits are competitive for a full-time term appointment. 1) The Department of Philosophy and Religion in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a full-time, academic year appointment in religious ethics (either Western or non-Western) at the rank of Professorial Lecturer beginning August 29, 2022. Teaching duties include introductory courses in religious ethics and one upper level seminar. We particularly welcome candidates with a capacity to incorporate diverse religious traditions in teaching and with expertise in religion and society, religion and politics, religion and ecology, or issues relevant to the contemporary world. In addition to scholarship and teaching, responsibilities will include participation in department, school, and university activities.
