SACP Call for Papers
2017 AAR Annual Meeting, Boston
November 18-21, 2017

Society for Asian and Comparative Philosophy is affiliated with the AAR as the "Related Scholarly Organization," and we are invited to offer panels at the annual meeting.

The SACP will host at least one panel for this year's AAR meeting. There is a possibility that the panel will be scheduled on Saturday (11/18) in the morning, before the start of the official AAR program, unless otherwise requested by you in advance.

paper proposal (your name, the title of the paper, and an abstract of 250-300 words)

or

panel proposal (your name and the names of the panelists; the title of the panel, and the abstract of the panel in 250 words; the title of each individual paper plus an abstract of 200 words for each paper)

The panels that resulted in lively discussion in the recent past is on "Integrating Intercultural Philosophy (and Theology) into Academic Curriculum," and it is certainly a possibility to continue with this theme, but proposals on any other topic is welcome.

Call for Papers
SACP Mini-Symposium on
Raimon Panikkar's Intercultural Thought
Boston, November 17, 2017

In addition to the regular SACP panel, the SACP will host a mini-symposium on the intercultural thought of Raimon Panikkar at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion in Boston. This symposium is made possible by private donations. It will take place on November 17 (Friday), the day before the official beginning of the AAR program in order to avoid any scheduling conflict.  

Raimon Panikkar's thought covers a wide range of fields from theology to philosophy, culminating in the praxis of dialogical dialogue that aims at facilitating interreligious and intercultural communication and mutual enrichment. The purpose of the symposium is to celebrate the forthcoming book, The Companion to Raimon Panikkar (Cambridge: James Clark, 2017) ed., Peter Phan & Young-chan Ro, (Cambridge: James Clarke, 2017). The contributors of this volume will share their findings, but the symposium is open to all scholars and professionals who find Panikkar's dialogical philosophy important. Together, we will engage Panikkar's insight, multifaceted philosophy, and dynamic praxis. The themes of this year's symposium are:

• Philosophical (and theological) critique of Panikkar's interreligious intercultural thought. Topics of interest may include:  
  • Pluralism
  • Myth and logos
  • Diatopical hermeneutics
  • Dialogue and dialectics
  • Cultural disarmament
• Celebration of the publication of the Companion to Raimon Panikkar (Cambridge: James Clark, 2017), ed., Peter Phan & Young-chan Ro, (Cambridge: James Clarke, 2017).
