Dear SACP members,

Happy New Year!

This is a friendly reminder that the submission deadline for abstracts and proposals for the 2017 SACP conference in Beijing is February 10, 2017. Submission details are below and you can also find the information in our conference web: http://www.sacpweb.org/cfp-sacp-annual-conference/#more-559.

Society for Asian and Comparative Philosophy
49th Annual Conference
June 9-12, 2017

Peking University, Beijing, China

Deadline for Abstracts and Proposals: Feb 10, 2017

The 49th Annual Conference of the Society for Asian and Comparative Philosophy (http://www.sacpweb.org/) will be hosted by the Department of Philosophy, Peking University, Beijing, China.

The conference theme, “The Paradigm and Values of Chinese Philosophy within a Global Context,” is broadly designed to invite scholars representing Asian and Non-Western traditions, as well as those who employ cross-cultural philosophical analysis. The conference is not limited to those working in Chinese philosophy, and the SACP board especially welcomes proposals addressing action and change. In addition, those who wish to participate are encouraged to submit abstracts and presentations on the widest variety of topics that correspond to their special areas of interest, so long as they engage in some way with Asian and/or Comparative philosophies.

Presentation and panel proposal abstracts should be sent electronically to Mary I. Bockover (mib1@PROTECTED), secretary of the Society. Abstracts for presentations should be between 200-300 words, including a filename that begins with the presenter’s last name and closes with the name of our organization and the year of the conference, e.g., ‘Berger – SACP 2017’.

The presenter’s name, institutional affiliation and email address must also be stated in the text of the abstract itself.

Panel proposals should include the title and a brief description of the panel, as well as the names, affiliations, and email addresses of the participants. Please also provide the titles of each participant’s presentation.

The deadline for submission is February 10, 2017. Notice of acceptance of proposals will be sent to your e-mail address by the beginning of March, with instructions for how to register and submit the US$200 conference registration fee.

Our host institution, Peking University, will generously provide three days (June 9-12) free accommodation (room and board) for a limited number of accepted participants. Those participants will be selected not only based on their acceptance but also based on payment of SACP dues and the conference registration fee in a timely fashion. Some participants will also be invited to give lectures and talks in other universities around China.

To encourage student participation, the SACP has once again set up Graduate Student Essay Contest Awards for this conference. Student Essay Contest Prizes are: US$1,000 for First prize, US$750 for Second prize, and US$500 for Third prize. The awards are given in order to assist with the travel and accommodation expenses for those winners who attend and present their work at the 2017 SACP conference only. Graduate students who wish their papers to be considered for these prizes should submit a complete essay of no more than 10 pages (or 4,000 words) and a 300 word abstract to Mary I. Bockover at the above email address.

We look forward to receiving your proposals.
