Call for Proposals
Healing in Times of Precarity: Asian and Comparative Approaches

The Society for Asian and Comparative Philosophy (SACP) invites proposals for its next annual conference on the theme “Healing in Times of Precarity: Asian and Comparative Approaches.” The conference will take place May 19–22, 2026 at MAHE in Manipal, Karnataka, India, and will be highlighted by two keynote speakers: Jin Park (American University) and A. Raghuramaraju (Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati).

In an era marked by pandemics, ecological breakdown, political violence, and social fragmentation, questions of healing take on new urgency. Asian philosophies and comparative perspectives provide rich insights into how individuals, communities, and the planet can endure, transform, and flourish. We welcome papers that address healing not only in terms of medical or physical recovery, but also as ethical, spiritual, relational, and ecological restoration.

Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Philosophical and religious conceptions of healing in Asian traditions
  • Comparative approaches to healing, precarity, and resilience
  • Feminist, eco-philosophical, and postcolonial perspectives on healing
  • Narratives of survival, care, and community in times of crisis
  • The role of ritual, myth, and storytelling in sustaining life
  • Philosophical engagements with pandemics, ecological precarity, and social justice

  • US$1,000 for first prize

  • US$500 for third prize

Students must attend the conference to be eligible. Those who wish their papers to be considered for the graduate student award must submit both an abstract and a complete essay of no more than 5,000 words to SACP Secretary Kevin Taylor at SACPcontact@PROTECTED by November 1, 2025.

Format: As the meeting will be in-person, presenters are expected to attend and present on-site. The committee organizers will consider allowing remote presentations only if time on the program allows and when exceptional circumstances justify the accommodation. Otherwise, we will privilege those submissions that can be presented in-person, and cannot guarantee that adjustments can be made for changes to remote.
